During the War on the Aboleths, Couatl came to our world from the Pleroma to fight their opposites, the Aboleths. While most of the Couatl stayed in the sky to fight their enemies, some chose to adopt more Human forms, to soothe, heal, and guide the oppressed Humans to freedom. When the Aboleths were defeated, they delivered a final curse, one that warped the images of the inhabitants of the world and made all forget that at one time, they shared this world with one another. Those Couatl that were still in their Human form forgot that they were, at one time, divine beings; they went on to become the first Aasimar.
Aasimar are the descendants of the Couatl, touched by the Plane of Light. Whether it be the original Aasimar, who were Couatl themselves, or Couatl who changed form to come down to Ylembic to interact with Humans. Not every person whose lineage traces back to a Couatl becomes an Aasimar, however, they are few and far between.
Aasimar are similar to Humans in height and build, but similarities end there. Their skin comes in a variety of shades from a bright blue to a dull grey, their eyes were often a solid silver, with no pupil or iris. Their hair also ranges from more Human tones like black and blonde, to vibrant shades of blue and red. Those capable of sprouting wings have wings that resemble a Couatl. A person might go their entire life never discovering they are an Aasimar, as some just look like ordinary Humans.
Aasimar are most plentiful in the region of Seaclaid, where the Couatl and their descendants are seen as especially holy. They often hold high positions in the clergy or public offices as people are drawn to their leadership.
