Kobolds are the lowest form of draconic life. Kobolds are typically born as twins, one chromatic born of the excess sin that goes unused in the creation of a purple dragon, and one metallic born of the excess virtue that goes unused in the creation of a platinum dragon. However, in ages of virtue as almost all sin goes toward the creation of a purple dragon, very few chromatic Kobolds are born, the same applies to metallic Kobolds during ages of sin. In an age of balance, Kobolds are always born as twins.

Often, Kobolds parents will unwittingly, or in some instance very purposely, favor one Kobold over the other, depending on the society they live in, not realizing that metallic Kobolds hold as much potential for sin as chromatic Kobolds hold for virtue. This may even lead parents to abandon one of their children in order to appease a societal norm. In a society lead by the clergy, a Kobold may favor or abandon their chromatic twin, while those in a society heavily influenced by a thieves’ guild might favor or even abandon the metallic twin.

Similarly, the nature of Kobolds has given rise to some strange superstitions through no fault of their own. It is a commonly held belief that seeking out and killing the chromatic Kobold born of your sin will absolve the murderer of any sin that Kobold held. On the reverse side, many criminal organizations task initiates with killing a metallic Kobold as a way of casting off their former self and fully vesting the their new life. There are even relics made of Kobold bones and teeth, said to stave off sin or virtue depending on their former owner. Of course, these are simply harmful superstitions that have led to Kobolds being unjustly persecuted by those willing to do anything to protect themselves, even at the cost of an innocent Kobold.
