Endonym: Sirens

The Sirens, otherwise known as Mermaids, are sworn enemies of the Minotaurs as the embodiment of Harmony. Sirens are the result of Sea Elves who stayed on the prime Material Plane in order to fight the Minotaurs. They are mostly nomadic, establish few, smaller settlements throughout the sea floor. Most Sirens travel in pods of 5 to 12, and will team up with other pods if they need to. They roam the seas looking for the ships of the Minotaurs, and will attempt to bring down any they come across.

Although Sirens share a telepathic bond with one another, they primarily speak Auquan, a language also spoken by many other aquatic races, that is specially equipped to be spoken underwater. Women are encouraged to stay in the sea and take on roles such as Priestess, Leader, Defender, and Matriarch, while men are encouraged to venture out, including onto land, and become Diplomats, Traders, and Adventurers, thus men are also taught to speak Elven, and sometimes common. Siren society is matriarchically arranged, women take on the highest roles within their settlements and are the only ones allowed to undergo the Makanakala, a ritual during which they receive a fish-like tail. These select few are regarded as extremely holy and placed at the top of their society, they also have become the quintessential image of a mermaid, due to them sticking out among their compatriots, who are themselves difficult to discern from Tritons.

Sirens worship Ikatere, a sea Goddess that rules over all fish apart from sharks. Her son, the Icon Theseus, is also often worshipped, especially among men, for his mythical fights against Moloch, the God of Minotaurs. Men pray to Theseus before battle, in hopes of receiving a bit of his courage when going up against Minotaurs. Ikatere is worshiped by all Siren-kind, and also harbors a hatred for Moloch, but her son is more well-known than she to do battle with the Minotaur Gods.
