Muses are spirits which embody artistic and scholarly pursuits, also embodying a tenant or ideal. Muses are beings of beauty in mind and talent, and serve as inspiration for the artists, musicians, and scholars of the world. The Muses are divided into three groups, the Divium, Trivium, and Quadrivium. The Divium is focused on basic concepts or arts and skills, Melody and Rhythm, which the later Muses build upon to create their works of art. Although thought to be innate, rhythm and melody are understood as necessary starting grounds for anyone hoping to climb the ladder of talent. The Trivium are concerned with thought, and providing students with the experience of building skills from the beginning stages of ideation through practice and into mastery. The tenants taught at this stage are vital in progressing to the Quadrivium, who are concerned with putting learning into motion to create artistic and scholarly works that provide the world with new ideas. Each stage builds on the last guiding the pupil towards true inspiration. Alternatively, they can be called upon by a pupil to inspire a work of art in a specific field of study such as dance, poetry, and debate.
