Lady of the Lake. Goddess of Vanity, Weapons, and Duels.
From a mirrored lake, the ripples reveal an outstretched hand and nothing more, the fingers loosely coiled around the hilt of a beaming blade that beckons mighty souls to wield it. The hand belongs to Nimuë, the Lady of the Lake, Goddess of Vanity, Weapons, and Duels. Nimuë feeds on the ambition of the wielder and drives them mad with duty and honor. Ultimately they succumb to be a part of her Tarot. Nimuë’s prime candidate is a zealous and overconfident warrior, one who believes they could never be corrupted by the blade.
The most powerful among the seduced become Major Arcana and gain the right to sit at the Roundtable, these Major Arcana are paragons of combat with a particular weapon, from daggers to bows to glaives to flails, along with the characteristics the weapon represents. If a powerful being wishes to supplant an existing Major Arcanum, they engage in trial by combat, the winner taking the empty seat. The Major Arcanum is compelled to accept any duel issued to them to ensure that in each opening sits the most powerful being possible.
Taking the blade turns the wielder into a Minor Arcanum over time. The power of the Minor Arcanum is almost entirely contained within the blade, and thus, defeating the Minor Arcanum and taking the blade will result in the new wielder eventually being driven to madness and taking the spot of the Minor Arcanum they defeated. Should the Minor Arcanum fall and the blade not be taken by a new wielder, Nimuë shall take it back to her lake, only to tempt a new wielder when the time comes. If ever a Minor Arcanum is deemed to waver in their commitment or be seen as weak, Nimuë will also take the blade and bestow it upon another. Those killed by one of her soldiers are doomed to become a part of the Wild Hunt under command of the one who killed them, becoming Minor Arcana. This includes Minor Arcanum who challenge a Major Arcanum to a duel for their spot; should either parish in the duel, they are doomed to eternity as a Minor Arcanum, never able to challenge a Major Arcanum ever again.
