Trolls are, just like any other Slant-Giant, the result of Giant conceiving and birthing a child under abnormal circumstances. In the case of Trolls, the mother is under the influence of opposing forces, a rune of motion from a Ley Line of Ylnadir and a rune of rest from Ytlys. This could be as a result of the Giant spending a lot of time around an environment that experiences drastic changes in water levels, such as a river that experiences sever flooding, or a lake that frequently dries up. Trolls, as a result, adopt traits of both motion and rest. Rest gives them added defense, but at a cost, sever heat can cause the liquids that they store in their bodies to harden into stone. As a result, the Trolls must be very cautious in exposing themselves to sunlight. A cloudy day might be fine, but if the weather changes and exposes them to high temperatures from sunlight, they might find themselves petrified. However, this petrification is not the end of their life, typically it is more of a dormancy as rains or floods might rehydrate the Troll and bring it out of its slumber. Motion gives them their characteristic regenerative abilities, allowing them to reform their corporeal bodies from reserved liquids in their body. However, this too comes at a cost, a troll can not sleep outside of its petrification. This is not a problem for them for the most part, but prolonged exposure injury or stress can cause a Troll to become severely agitated and disoriented due to their inability to recover via sleep, enough so to venture out and attack nearby settlements.
