Endonym: Hyd

Lizardfolk, as many know them, are better known as the Hyd amongst themselves. The Hyd are live in tribes in swamps, and rarely venture into society. The largest concentration of the Hyd is found in the Great Swamp of Om, where the population is divided into six tribes, representing the number of heads of their God, Omhydra. Outside of the Great Swamp of Om, the Hyd make their home in whatever swamp they can, attempting to stay out of the way of society. They can be found in the swamps surrounding Mjevasra

The Hyd worship Omhydra, a God of poison and death, who they also believe is dead. The Hyd are perfectly attuned to the murky and toxic swamp they live in; they have a great lung capacity and are excellent swimmers. They Worship the concept of death and believe in reincarnation; they believe that when their God, Omhydra, died and its six heads were cut off, the heads became the first of the Hyd. As such, they do not mourn their fallen, believing that for each one of them slain, two more will take their place. Because of this, they can often be perceived as cold and calculating.

The Hyd are not very particular about what they eat, they will eat just about anything, from trash to raw flesh. Their stomachs are particularly good at breaking down just about anything, and they can even eat slightly rotten food due to their strong stomachs. It is unwise to dangle anything of value in front of a Hyd, as once they eat it, there is little chance of getting it back.

The Hyd build very little structures, there are six great temples built around the Great Swamp, one by each tribe, but little else. These temples are places of worship and respect, no blood is to be shed, and no destruction is to come to them. To break these rules is to incur the wrath of the entire Hyd population.

The Great Swamp of Om is home to many Hydra, making it an extremely dangerous place for outsiders. However, the Hyd seem to have a symbiotic relationship, mutually benefitting each side. Many Hyd worship the Hydra, offering food and an occasional sacrifice, and the Hydra act as religious icons and also offer protection from outsiders, and even those who lay their worship in Yama still see them as divine beasts made by Yama to protect them.
