Established on the eastern coast of The Bitterlands, the lands where Wheatport stands were claimed hundreds of years ago in a struggle between the independent farmers who called the then-village home. They wished to remain independent from the rule of a king, but the Bitterlands looked to gain a sea port. In the end, the Bitterlands prevailed and claimed the lands, commanding an army capable of defeating the village ten times over. Not long after, the Au Prairie populated the land. The lands surrounding Wheatport are unlike the rest of the Bitterlands, for one, they hold no plains in which Bitterwheat grows, the city was mainly established for access to the seas, rather than wheat production.

One very long river delta spans through the countryside, one which both Adrian and Wheatport rest. When one dies, it is customary for the deceased to be put on a raft and covered in wheat, and sent downstream, to eventually fall into the sea as their final resting place. When Wheatport was first established, there was very little in the way of food for a while, there were no plains in which Bitterwheat to grow and shipments of wheat were scarce. Hard winters drove the citizens of Wheatport to resort to cannibalism, using the bodies sent downstream from Adrian to keep sustained. The bodies were more consistent and nutritional than the wheat.

Even after the long winters, the behavior lingered, it seemed cults had begun popping up, centering themselves around cannibalism. When envoys from the capital would come to visit or checkup, the cults would make sure to halt their behavior or risk all-out war for their disrespect. It wasn’t too long however, that their behavior made its way into the public eye, it seemed more than a few citizens of Wheatport were partaking in the act, even most of the nobility were undertaking cannibalism. When the capital finally heard of their acts, the city was punished and shunned, many were executed for their disrespect.
