Ohnk is a country of tradition, of law and order, of absolute authority. Nestled east of the Brigshield Mountains and stretching along the Southern Hills, the lands of Ohnk were settled by nomadic travelers of Moufi descent long ago, who laid down their nomadic ways for a life of centralized order.
Shortly after settling the lands, the people befriended the Dwarves of neighboring strongholds, Durn Durahl, Dirdarihm, and Var Muldar. These Dwarves showed them a secret smithing technique using a special ore which the Dwarves called Shamirite. The ore, when infused with steel, would produce a sharper blade, a harder hammer, a stronger armor, along with a faint blue tint. The ore was a necessary ingredient in creating enchanted items, whether or not they were made of metal.
The tradition of smithing was ingrained into Moufi culture, with each subsequent generation trying to outdo the smiths of that prior. The Moufi began smithing beautiful works of art in the form of blades, and a blade crafted by a Moufi blacksmith would not be complete without fine detailing, etching, and ornate hilts and pummels. Their handiwork with metal extended far outside of weapons and armor, however, cities are adorned with beautiful workings of iron, steel, and gold.
Their friendship with the Dwarves did not last long, however, the Moufi viewed the Shamirite as theirs to take, and the Dwarven stronghold of Dirdarihm was sitting directly on top of a pocket of the rare ore, or so they thought. The Moufi of Ohnk waged a war against the stronghold, which waged on for years and years, until the Moufi finally got the upper hand, winning the battle and securing a surrender of the Dwarves under the condition that they be allowed to remain in the stronghold, and that the stronghold remain untouched, giving the Moufi rights to any ore they find in the mountains. Upon reaching the bottom of the stronghold, and mining for a few days, the Moufi found that there was no ore to take. In a fit of rage, the Moufi leaders ordered the settlement be caved in, killing thousands.
Although they have one of the largest armies, they only use it wisely, preemptive strikes are rare for the country, and wars are few and far between. Whereas Illythkos has theater and music, and Opaal has scholars and priests, Ohnk has smiths and fighters. Smiths are among the most famous people in the orderly country of Ohnk, and warriors are skilled to be both fighters and entertainers. Becoming a skilled and successful smith in Ohnk takes years of studious training under a skilled smith before being able to master the craft and forge these pieces of art.
