Saint Paal the Defiant is the Prophet of Rebirth to the people of Opaal. In life, she was the daughter of an emperor of a tyrannical land. Her virtue and piety led her to sprout the wings of an Gold Dragon. Her mother tried to protect her, but her father killed her mother, and locked her away never to be seen, out of fear that it might lead his nation to worship something before him. But rumors started, and grew beyond control, and before she knew it, she had a following all her own. Her father persecuted these believers, burning them at the stake for worshipping someone else. She prayed to Ordibehesht to guide her followers to somewhere free from the grasp of her father, and so she did, leading them to the island of Opaal.
She died in her cell not long after, blind and hungry, and far from her followers, but in death she became the symbol that united an entire nation of rebels. She is the patron saint of Opaal, and the oppressed. Although never technically canonized by the church, or offered Ost by an Gold Dragon, those who worship her believe that she would have been offered both, if she had lived to see Opaal and had the chance to be judged. Even though she isn’t a Saint, the Opaal have given her a draconic form, a White Wyrm. While other saints are depicted as Gold, Paal is depicted as white for her purity with dove like wings to match.
