God of Water, the Dead, Funerals, and the Grave. Patron of the Tritons. Ferryman of the Dead. Aeon.

arv-SHEN, Rhymes with “Carve Then.”

Oirbsen washed away the grey sands of Ylembica with his oceans, creating fertile soils and seas for agriculture and trade. God of the dead and judgement, he sails the oceans, shepherding lost souls to their place in the afterlife, as well as judging whether they are worthy of such peace. At his hip is a jar, swirling with the souls of those unworthy to receive even the resting place of Tartarus. Oirbsen is the name given to the deity in the common language, by way of the Elves; to the Tritons, he is known as Apsu.

As he ferries lost souls away from this world, he offers support to those who have lost and offers to wash away the sorrows of those who pray to him. Just as the sea represents sorrow, loss, and death to those in the darkest moments of their lives, it also represents joy and trade, the cornerstone of many nations’ economy and society.

Oirbsen is the day to Arawn’s night. Where Arawn represents a violent and early death, Oirbsen represents a peaceful death, or otherwise a death that fulfills their fate. Arawn is quick, and murder allows an opening for Arawn slip in and steal the soul of the victim, especially if Arawn’s name is invoked beforehand.

Death and the events leading up to it is often painful, and Oirbsen offers relief in those final moments. As the soul and body fight for the last remaining lifeforce of a being, Oirbsen offers to end the struggle and the pain that comes along with, transporting the soul to its eventual resting place. Attempting to fight Oirbsen’s offer risks the soul being taken forcefully by a less than good entity, such as the Morrigan or her Walkyries, or Arawn, or one of the Titans of Tartarus, among others.

Oirbsen is the Patron God of the Tritons, who tell stories of his heroic defeat of Novaean the Kraken. Novaean is a god of fear, residing in the deepest depths of the ocean, Novaean was responsible for the death of thousands of confident sailors, leading to a great deal of fear about the seas. Oirbsen, however, was undeterred and rushed into battle with the beast and came out completely unscathed, subduing the monster. This defeat marked the beginning of the Tritons, who were so filled with hope upon the return of their champion that they devoted themselves to the cause of hope and ensuring that the collective world never falls into despair.
